Out of all the jobs I’ve ever had teaching surfing is without a doubt the best way to spend your summer. Seven days a week, beach, sand, usually sunshine and plenty of new friends and faces to talk to. The worst part is wet wetsuits.. seriously not bad at all. I got very lucky knowing a good friend to get me connected with this gig and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’ve learned so much about surfing, teaching, people and most importantly.. myself.
Here are a few things I picked up.
– Do take a surf lesson before trying it out for the first time
– Don’t bother with a gym membership ever again, surfing is the best workout of all time
– Do close your mouth and avoid drinking the ocean water around LA, sinus infections are almost a guarantee
– Be more outgoing, talk to anyone. Bums or babes way out of your league. Every time you do you grow
– Everything in life is like the tides and know how to play them to catch the best surf (better times in life)
– become a local everywhere you go
