Arriving in Chile

I almost didn’t make it to Chile. My flight leaving LA was more than an hour and a half late and my layover was just shy of an hour. I got to Dallas and ran full steam ahead to the D22 gate for Santiago. No one, not a soul but one man standing at the counter talking to the associate. I looked and him and he shrugged back at me. “They left,” He said. Suddenly there was a few EMTs and police officers coming to the gate. The associate took a phone call and said to us “Hang tight, they’re coming back.” By sheer bittersweet luck someone had claimed a medical emergency and they turned the plane around from taxiing. Off to Chile!

Valle Nevado was the destination. I met up with the Active Junky crew at customs and we squeezed into a van with piles of gear and made our way up a zillion crazy switchbacks to the resort. If you’ve driven that road you know what I’m talking about. If not, you gotta see it to believe it. 35 or so back and forth turns climbing about 5,000 feet with sheer cliffs and not huge on guardrails.

Both of our first days of skiing were super productive bluebird pow days. I’m really happy with a few photos grabbed so far. Today it snowed and without trees here its really hard to see in the flatlight so we had a downday and took some lifestyle shots .
